Projects

This scenario-based eLearning concept project was developed for game store managers and employees to facilitate both correct procedure and positive customer experience.

Problem and Solution

A retail videogame and accessory company, considered to be at the mid-level, reached out with a concern as their seasonal and part-time employees were non-compliant with the appropriate guidelines regarding used videogames and accessories. The personnel failed to adhere to standard operating procedures for buying, trading, and selling used videogames and accessories. This nonconformity led to incorrect and mispriced goods and poor customer interactions and feedback.

Upon recognizing the cause behind these incidents as employee unawareness, the client tasked me to develop a learning experience tailored towards both the new hires and existing employees.

To cater to this, I proposed a scenario-based eLearning opportunity that walked through realistic store working situations where employees can make informed decisions, examine the subtleties of their choices, and understand the impact they may have on their environment.

Process

Text-Based Storyboard/ Mock-up

To begin the project, I collaborated with the store manager who served as the subject matter expert and created an action map. Based on the map, I developed a textual storyboard in Miru. Following this, I designed a visual prototype and presented it for approval. Upon receiving approval, I proceeded to draft a visual storyboard which included programming specifications.

While awaiting confirmation on the visual storyboard, I initiated work on a prototype in Articulate Storyline 360. Feedback on the prototype was received from the client and incorporated into the final project in Storyline with necessary adjustments.

Sample Visuals

These sample visuals show the early layout and options presented to the client.  The client wanted a hand-drawn and cartoon-like program to match the game store's color and aesthetic, and ultimately chose the color red to match the company's look.  The faces to the right are samples of how the customer may react to right and wrong responses.

Takeaways

Throughout this project, I deepened my comprehension and utilization of Articulate Storyline 360, and visual design.

One aspect that posed a challenge for me was visual design, specifically in terms of creating spatial organization within slides and aligning elements to ensure a smooth flow. It took me several iterations to achieve a visually pleasing design for the eLearning experience. However, incorporating visual mock-ups significantly expedited my overall workflow compared to solely working in Articulate Storyline 360. Identifying this area for improvement has now empowered me to approach future projects with greater intentionality in terms of visual design.
